FALLing in Love with Maine Camps

While summer is undoubtedly our favorite season at Maine Camps, we’re also fall-ing in love with fall. Maine’s natural beauty is undeniable as we head deeper into “leaf peeping” season and we appreciate the foliage and amazing activities. Seeing the colorful leaves reflected on our camp lakes and throughout the state is truly breathtaking.

For the best guide to leaf peeping, we recommend following the weekly Foliage Report from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry. The map showcases when to visit each region for the best fall colors. It can be viewed here: https://www.maine.gov/dacf/mfs/projects/fall_foliage/report/index.shtml

In the fall, some Maine Camps offer prospective camp family tours, so if you’re thinking about camp for your kids for summer 2024, NOW is a great time to talk to camp directors about visiting and enrolling. You can also use tools like Select-A-Camp to build a list of camps based on criteria you’d like and our Campcierge® who provides free, personalized camp guidance; email: laurie@mainecampexperience.com. Families can read overviews and testimonials, and see videos of all 40 member camps beneath the interactive Maine map at this link: https://www.mainecampexperience.com/Find-a-Summer-Camp/Interactive-Map

Fall is also a great time for our Maine Camps to conduct renovation projects from constructing new camper cabins and activity facilities, to increasing solar power by installing solar panels. Maine Camps really invest money back into the camps each year and we’re thankful to our wonderful business partners that help with building projects including: Hancock Lumber, Hammond Lumber Company, and McCormack Building Supply.

Beyond Maine Camps, we checked in with our friends at Visit Maine to learn about fun things to see and do. Check out this link for great ideas about where to hike, climb, camp, boat, drive, shop, enjoy outdoor arts & culture, and more. There are also many apple and pumpkin picking spots. See link here: https://visitmaine.com/fall-in-maine

There are also many wonderful Maine events for those camp families who live in Maine year round, or for those who want to drive or fly in for some fall festivities. Check out this list with info about events like the Fryeburg Fair, the Freeport Fall Festival on the L.L.Bean Campus, Maine Maple Fest, and Harvest on the Harbor in Portland, which includes Oysterfest, Lobster Chef of the Year Competition, and more! We also recently discovered a GREAT resource for all things Maine apples – The Maine Pomological Society, a nonprofit organization incorporated in 1873, is comprised of apple orchards throughout the state dedicated to strengthening the sector as well as the agricultural industry in Maine. On their site, families can learn where to apple pick, about the different varieties of apples, and many amazing-sounding recipes. We know our Maine Campers love to cook and bake, so camp families may enjoy recipes such as: oatmeal apple cookies, butternut apple soup, apple dumplings, and more! https://www.maineapples.org

Our summer playgrounds are full of fall fun, so enjoy a taste of Maine this autumn.
