Halloween Reminds Us of Maine Camp!
October 27, 2020, by MCE Blog Team

Halloween is always one of the most fun and festive times of the year. Like many other things in 2020, this holiday will be different; however, the tradition of dressing up in fun costumes is still very present, no matter where you are or what you are doing to celebrate.

Dressing up for Halloween reminds us of the many times we dress up at Maine Camps. For Maine Camp Experience (MCE) blogger Emma, dressing up at camp is one of the highlights of every summer: “Some of my favorite evening activities involved putting on our craziest costumes for classic games like Let’s Make a Deal, or costume contests using supplies like toilet paper, newspaper or wrapping paper. No matter what we were doing, if costumes were involved, we knew it was a fun night!”

Halloween took on a particularly special meaning at MCE blogger Ali’s Maine Camp. Ali tells us “At my camp there was one night every summer when all the older girls were off on separate trips. On typical camp nights the girls in the oldest age group would lead evening activities. However, this night the 12 year olds were in charge. This is when Halloween Night took place. The 12 year olds would come together to practice their collaborative skills and leadership skills to set up a haunted house, a candy scavenger hunt, and a costume contest. It was always a blast!”

No matter what you are doing for Halloween this year, we at MCE think every opportunity to dress up is a good one! Even creating a costume contest at home this year can help bring the spirit of one of our favorite holidays to life. Happy Halloween!
