It’s the new year; we’re all systems go and running toward summer! We’re now in the same calendar year as the coming Maine Camp summer, which makes it feel even closer and more real.

In 2024, here are 24 reasons we’re looking forward to the coming Maine Camp summer:

  1. Being back with our camp friends 24/7 – camp friends are the best!
  2. Spending quality time on the lake – waterskiing, sailing, swimming, paddle boarding, and more
  3. Seeing our camp directors and favorite camp counselors
  4. Campfire S’mores and songs
  5. Camp spirit – it’s fun to wear silly wigs, tutus, face paint, bandanas, and more for Olympics and beyond
  6. Amazing trips – active adventures like rafting and hiking, and visiting beautiful places like Boothbay Harbor and Acadia National Park
  7. Awesome programs and activities that provide non-stop action
  8. Having downtime to chill in our cabins or under pine trees hanging with camp friends, writing letters, and playing cards, MadLibs, ping pong, and more
  9. Sports! Tennis, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, football, golf, hockey, gymnastics, equestrian, and more – it’s great to be physically active, hone skills, and learn new skills
  10. Arts! Ceramics, dance, theater, painting, photography, stained glass, jewelry making, woodworking, cooking, and more – it’s exciting to create, invent and experiment
  11. Nature! Hikes, berry picking trips, waterfalls, and exploration
  12. Intercamps – it’s great to be a part of a team and it’s cool to visit other camps for some friendly competition
  13. Socials – it’s fun to meet and visit with campers from other camps or hang with kids at our own camp, often with great themes like disco, sports teams, and 80s
  14. Brother/sister days – spending quality time with our siblings is the best!
  15. Getting off social media and technology – to be more present and live in the moments
  16. Learning new things – it’s great to be able to try things at camp that kids may not get to do at home
  17. Reaching our goals – it’s exciting to climb to the top of the rock wall, learn to ride a bike, move up a swim group, perfect a new tennis serve – it builds confidence and resilience
  18. Cookies and other fave snacks and foods at camp
  19. Camp wrist! Making, wearing, and trading new bracelets
  20. Special events like Carnival and Group Sing
  21. Helping others with social action initiatives like World of Change
  22. Big and little brothers and sisters – getting paired with a sibling at camp is a great way to feel connected. It helps littles get more acclimated and it helps bigs practice leadership, compassion
  23. Time away from home and parents, which builds kids’ independence – beneficial in youth, at college, and in life beyond
  24. The unknowns that can’t be planned or predicted, but that happen and make each Maine Camp summer magical and unique!

When last camp summer ended, 12 months seemed like forever. Now that we’re in 2024, we’re halfway there and we’ll be back in our favorite place before we know it!
