You Bloom Where You’re Planted – Maine Camps

As we recently celebrated Earth Day, we at Maine Camp Experience think about what that means to us – how we appreciate our surroundings, preserve our planet, and try to make a positive impact. More on that in a minute. One other aspect that really resounds is a phrase: “you bloom where you’re planted,” which makes us think about how the Maine Camps environment really enables children to thrive mentally, physically, and emotionally. As Laurie, our Campcierge shares: “I definitely wouldn’t be the first camp parent to notice how much my kids grow in Maine at camp each summer!”

Children thrive when they are outside in nature and at camp in Maine, there’s no shortage of that! Campers spend the majority of their camp days and nights outside – swimming, sailing, running, climbing, hiking, and biking, just to name a few of the tons of active activities and events campers enjoy. Many arts classes are also held outside like painting by the water, photography around camp, and even learning wilderness cooking.

Campers get tons of Vitamin D as they’re breathing in clean air from a tremendous amount of mature pine trees. They’re swimming in and sailing on clean water in large natural lakes. Getting to live, relax, and play in these environs painted in beautiful blues and greens lets us appreciate and rejuvenate. Think about it – when you take a vacation – the room with the water view often comes at a premium. And vacationers seek nature-based activities as a respite from daily life. How lucky are these Maine Campers who get to spend summers in this environment. These natural factors combined with meaningful youth development opportunities and nurturing directors and staff, really enable Maine campers to gain confidence, independence, community, resilience, and more!

And, when it comes to how Maine campers help preserve our planet, there are many ways they learn and grow. Maine campers cultivate gardens and enjoy harvesting farm-to-table cuisine. They learn about how they can reduce, reuse, and recycle, with activities like composting, and some even participate in lakeside cleanups to make the world a better place.

Maine Camps have been around for over 100 years and we hope that preserving the environs will help keep them running well for future generations for 100++ more years to come!
