Types of Camps

Maine camps are the finest and most well established in the country. There are a variety of types to choose from and all provide children with an equally wonderful camp experience. Some summer camps are single gender while others are coed. There are also brother/sister camps that are on one campus or located nearby, where boys and girls have separate facilities and programs.

Most MCE camps are privately owned and operated, though some are agency-based, meaning there is an organization (such as a not-for-profit entity) that oversees their operation. Additionally, some MCE camps identify themselves with a religious affiliation and there is specific mention of this on their individual websites.

Some camps are full-season only, generally 7 weeks in length. Other camps offer half sessions, which tend to be 3-4 weeks. Others offer a combination of sessions, including a 2 week option.

MCE Camps

To learn more about an individual camp, visit its MCE camp page for an overview of its program, philosophy and traditions. View photos and videos, access its website, explore its social media sites and request an information packet—including a DVD describing the fun and exciting opportunities awaiting your child. Feel free to request material from a variety of MCE camps.

Choosing a summer camp may seem overwhelming, especially for first-time families.
