Traditional vs. Specialty Camp

We all want our children to be well rounded and happy, right? One amazing gift you can bestow upon them is sending them to sleep away camp in Maine. The majority of sleep away camps in Maine are what you would call “traditional camps.” At these camps, they provide your child with an array of activities, as well as good old fashioned values. So many of these camps have been in existence for a long time; 60 years, 80 years, some even 100 years! Generations of families have attended these camps, and the songs and traditions have pretty much stayed true.

At a traditional overnight camp, your child can participate in all sports; on the land or in the lake, as well as creative and adventure activities. They will get to experience things they have never done, and some even discover they have a talent they didn’t know about! Most children are not introduced to every sport like they are at camp so they may not even know they enjoy playing a certain sport until they try! When I went to camp in Maine, I used to love when I had activities with older and younger campers, it makes you have a relationship with everyone in the camp!

If you opt for a “specialty camp,” you may not be aware of what your child could be missing out on. Those camps are usually for a week or two at a time, focusing on one skill or interest, which doesn’t give them a chance to build lifelong friendships or develop new skills in other areas they didn’t even know they had. Deciding where to send your child to camp is a big decision, and now is the time to start planning for next summer! camp memories! See for yourself why summer and camp belong in Maine.
