The Countdown is On: 100 Days to Camp in Maine!

We’re almost there – camp in Maine is only 100 days away! We have all marked our calendars, and circled the day when we will finally return to the beautiful summer days in Maine. And, as winter starts to fade (and then returns, and then starts to fade again), we know that our summer paradise is even closer than ever. But with 100 days left before camp begins, both camps & families have plenty of work to do to prepare for the upcoming summer – and since June and July will be here before we know it, it’s time to buckle down and make sure that we’re prepared for another wonderful summer.

As spring is on its way, camps are taking the necessary steps to ensure that everything is ready for opening day. Some camps may use the offseason to complete construction projects – this may mean building new facilities, or refurbishing or adding on to already existing ones. On top of this, camps will soon start the process of manicuring their campuses – this may include trimming tree branches and hedges, planting new grass where needed, or doing whatever else needs to be done to make sure camp is in tip-top shape when arrival day finally rolls around. And of course, camps are working their hardest to make sure they hire responsible, enthusiastic camp staff to care for and support your camper this summer.

For families, this is the time to start preparing for your child’s summer away. From a logistical standpoint, annual physicals will need to be scheduled and forms will need to be completed. For new camp families in particular, it’s important to pay very close attention to the camper profile form – this will be hugely helpful for your child’s counselors and camp directors, as they work to ensure that they are providing the individualized support your child needs over the summer. It’s also never too early to do your camp shopping – whether this includes purchasing your camp-gear, or planning your yearly trip to your shopping outlet of choice, it always pays to plan ahead! (And remember, you can never have enough clean socks at camp).

Before we know it, we’ll all be making the wonderful journey back to Maine. As we move into spring and towards summer, make sure you’re taking the steps needed to prepare for a successful summer – because you know that the camps will be! Only 100 days to go – we’ll see you in Maine!
