Reflecting at Maine Camps
September 14, 2021, by MCE Blog Team

With the recent 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the upcoming Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, a day of atonement, we at Maine Camp Experience are taking time to reflect. We reflect about what’s important to us, we appreciate what we have, and we think about what we can do better like helping others.

When we think about what’s important, we think about the relationships that we forge and cultivate throughout our lives. It starts with our families for whom we are thankful. Next are the meaningful bonds we form with the people we choose. For many, those are the friends at Maine Camps who become family. We grow together, year after year, experience after experience as the bonds deepen and often last a lifetime.

We also think about the physical world around us and appreciate natural beauty that keeps us calm and happy. We think of places where we find peace and happiness and Maine Camps are definitely that place for tens of thousands of current campers and camp families, staff, and alumni who enjoy huge natural lakes, and acres of fields and forests for sports, arts, nature, and outdoor adventures.

When we reflect on how we can do better, we think of how we can be better and how we can help others. We think of the values Maine Camps teach like respect, caring, honor, cooperation, and teamwork and how we can integrate those values into our daily lives. We also look for ways beyond through philanthropic organizations and initiatives to help others and help the environment. We want to help ourselves, others, and our environment be the best that they can be.

As we reflect, we are sorry for what we have lost and we feel lucky for what we have. With positivity, we can do great things. We wish everyone in the Maine Camp community a healthy, happy, and meaningful year ahead.
