Best Summer Job: Work at a Maine Camp
January 24, 2023, by MCE Blog Team

Want to be outdoors, have fun, meet people from all over the world, make a difference in kids’ lives, and get paid? Working at a Maine Camp this summer is the best job!

Being a counselor at a Maine Camp is a very rewarding experience. Counselors get to teach – mentor – coach – lead by example – listen and offer advice – be a part of a team – and become part of a community. Counselors teach campers about compassion, friendship, how to advocate for themselves, resilience, and skills in sports, arts, and active adventures. They help campers appreciate the beauty of nature, shoot hoops together, make friendship bracelets, do Mad Libs, braid hair, give piggyback rides, motivate and encourage campers from the center of a pre-game huddle, and more!

If you’re 18 or older and looking for a great summer job, you can apply to one or up to 40 camps though this link: https://www.mainecampexperience.com/work-at-camp

Maine Camps provide counselors with all meals, housing, transportation to and from camp, and a competitive salary. Counselors work hard, enjoy nature, have fun, make new friends, become an integral part of the community, gain confidence, and hone their leadership and interpersonal skills. They also have time off to socialize with other counselors.

Maine Camps have campers and staff from every US state and more than 30 countries abroad.

Max from Mexico shares: “I didn’t know what to expect but as soon as I arrived at camp, everyone was welcoming and kind. I got involved in the community and it felt like home. I enjoyed meeting people from all over – getting to know other people’s cultures and share mine. I loved the trips out of camp – it was fun to have memorable moments with the kids. I liked being a part of the magic of camp.”

Ali from Connecticut shares: “I loved being a counselor because I got to spend summers in nature, I learned how to think on my feet, and I developed lifelong friendships!”

Grace from New Jersey shares: “Being a counselor allowed me to develop leadership skills and build lifelong relationships with my campers. Learning how to balance being a friend to my campers and being in an authoritative role was an extremely important lesson that has aided me in situations beyond those at camp, and will continue to do so for years to come.”
