Role Models at Maine Camps

With Father’s Day coming up, we know so many of our Maine campers are thinking about their dads, and beyond that, the many people they look up to in their lives. At Maine Camp Experience (MCE), this reminds us of all our wonderful counselors and directors— whether they’re male or female, and the many ways that they serve as role models for campers of all ages.

Since her first summer over 12 years ago, MCE blogger Emma remembers the many counselors who guided her and taught her countless important lessons over her seven summers. “Whether it was teaching us how to make our beds at eight years old, or teaching us what it meant to be part of a team and look out for others through communal bunk chores, Color War sportsmanship, or countless other things, my counselors sent me home each summer with new skills, lessons, and memories. They helped me grow into who I am today, and fostered friendships that have held for many years,” says MCE blogger Emma. No matter how old you are, MCE counselors and directors are people you can look up to— they put others before themselves, always provide an optimistic outlook, and teach our campers the same.

Beyond the guidance and life-long lessons our counselors provide us with, they also work so hard to make sure every moment is fun and exciting for our campers. Whether its cheering campers up after a tough day or simply being goofy with their campers through annual activities at many of our camps, like Counselor Hunt or the Counselor Show, counselors always know how to put a smile on every face. Counselors at MCE know how to make everyday fun and special, while still providing our campers with important guidance along the way.

At the end of every summer, counselors, like campers, find it hard to leave our Maine camps. The friendships and memories that our counselors create throughout each summer hold as true as our campers and these friendships turn into long-lasting bonds, not only amongst counselors but between counselors and campers, too. As a counselor at her Maine Camp, MCE blogger Ali loved to stay connected as her campers matured over each passing summer. And MCE blogger Emma notes that even six years out, she still makes sure to keep in touch with the many counselors who made her summers so memorable!

Our counselors and directors at MCE are so special and provide our campers with amazing role models. As we celebrate our dads this week, we thank our counselors for being people we can look up to, too!
