Music to Our Ears at Maine Camps

Music is said to soothe the soul, unite us in song, and make us sing along. Music is an integral part of camp in Maine and musical instruction is a key part of the arts that many campers relish.

In the performing arts, campers can receive instruction in many instruments, including: acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, drums, trumpet, violin, as well as voice and more! Talented and experienced staff really help bring out the best in campers.

Some campers come knowing how to play an instrument like guitar or piano. At camp they practice, write and record songs, perform at talent shows, and play in the camp theater shows. Other campers take up an instrument anew, which is pretty cool to think about coming to camp not knowing how to play at all, and leaving being able to play some songs. Musical instruments can be played in camps’ music studios and theaters, or outside under a shady tree on a beautiful summer day.

Campers and staff playing instruments like guitar can come together informally to jam during free time or plan to play at campfires that bring the camp together. Everyone at camp sings along as guitarists strum the notes to camp anthems, popular hit songs, and even original songs. Campers may choose to form bands with other campmates and perform at open mic/“coffee house” nights and at battle of the bands events.

Campers get to write and sing meaningful camp songs at Maine Camps during special events like Olympics or age group performances. Another way campers can enjoy music is that some Maine Camps have a radio station where campers can play deejay and pick songs to play, as well as host talk shows, and interview other campers.

Music is the soundtrack to our lives and the musical opportunities at Maine Camps make camp even more memorable and fun.
