Social action is an important part of any MCE summer, and our camp directors incorporate activities and programs that instill a lifelong commitment to giving back.
The camps incorporate programs to engage campers with important causes and organizations like helping Max Cure Foundation fight pediatric cancer, collaborating with Camp Sunshine which supports children with life-threatening illnesses and their families, and partnering with World of Change to help collect spare change for social action initiatives for children and families in need.
The "Dunk Your Kicks" partnership between Maine Camp Experience (MCE) and Max Cure Foundation (MCF) has been an incredible opportunity to engage campers in a social action program to help fight pediatric cancer. Campers were able to "dunk" their "kicks" (aka donate their used sneakers) at Maine camps to help raise money for research and treatment, help provide affordable footwear for those in need, and help the environment by keeping the sneakers out of landfills. So far, Maine camps have donated nearly 1,000 pairs of sneakers and we look forward to continuing the charge. Campers and counselors have also brought the Dunk Your Kicks program to their hometowns and schools.
For years, MCE campers have been actively involved with a variety of amazing organizations. See the kind of work we’ve done, your campers can do, as well as get inspiration for the rest of the year!
